Plastic waste for affordable building material – the silver bullet?

Plastic waste for affordable building material – the silver bullet?

Could the use of plastic as a raw material for the production of construction material, especially for low-cost housing and shelters, give plastic waste a second life? Several companies and start-ups use plastic waste as a feedstock primarily for the construction of low-cost housing. The "Export Initiative for Green Technologies" and the International Sustainable Chemistry Collaborative Centre  (ISC3), two initiatives of the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, have analysed the potentials and risks of building with plastic waste together and compiled the results in this factsheet and a video (accessible via a QR-code on the fact sheet).
