Design for Recycling: State of Play, Guidelines and Options for Action
Asia/Kuala_Lumpur: 3:00 - 5:00pm
Europe/Berlin: 9:00 - 11:00am
In an ideal circular economy, as many secondary resources, i.e. recycled material, shall enter production processes. As a precondition, products must be dismantlable and components must be recyclable. The transition towards circular economy includes the rethinking of product and packaging design to include considerations for end-of-life treatment and recyclability already when materials are chosen and products being designed. As a means to steer the behavior at the end-of-life in an early stage of the packaging’s and product’s life, the design phase, various initiatives have developed design-for-recycling guidelines for specific polymers and plastic applications.
The second session of our Dialogue Series will discuss how to introduce the design-for-recycling (D4R) principle in locally manufactured plastic products in South-East-Asia, beginning with a short introduction into the concept of Design-for-recycling by Öko-Institut, followed by presentations from practitioners from Europe and South-East-Asia.
The dialogue series is part of the project “Collaborative Action to Reduce Single-Use Plastic in South-East Asia (CAP SEA)”, which is part of a global project “Export Initiative for Green Technologies” commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU).
The event will take place mainly in English with simultaneous interpretation into Thai and Bahasa Indonesia.
