Launch of Innovative Awareness Raising Materials for Organic Waste Management in Port Blair, India
The Port Blair Municipal Council (PBMC), in collaboration with the GIZ global project “Environmental Protection Worldwide” as part of the “Exportinitiative Environmental Protection” on behalf of BMUV, proudly unveils a set of customised awareness and behaviour change communication materials dedicated to fostering responsible management of organic waste. The launch took place in Port Blair during a city-level event held in December 2023 as part of the ongoing “Management of Organic Waste India” module of the global project as well as the “CleanUp Port Blair” Campaign.
Amongst the communication materials, three publications have been launched which are strategically designed to communicate key pointers for effective waste management, addressing the nuances of organic waste and encouraging citizens to actively participate in good practices. The primary target audience for these materials includes school and college students, the youth, and households.
These publications, featuring vibrant illustrations and simplified local messaging, aim to be relatable, easy to understand, and highly informative. To further engage the audience, each publication is accompanied by an audio-visual version presented as short films, adding a dynamic and immersive element to the educational outreach.
GIZ, in collaboration with the city of Port Blair, plans to disseminate these publications to more than 100 schools and 15+ colleagues in the region. Leveraging the network of Residents Welfare Associations and the dedicated Port Blair Municipal Council sanitary workers, the information contained in these materials will empower communities to comprehend and implement improved organic waste management practices.
The “Management of Organic Waste India” module activities, implements pilot projects in Port Blair to promote environmental awareness, community involvement and nature conservation of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The activities implemented in Port Blair simultaneously align with India’s national efforts and its Clean India Mission 2.0. |
