Increasing Urban Green Cover - Story of a Land-Locked City in India

In this Virtual Coffee, we share the development of the inland city in India, Coimbatore, which used an innovative technique to create an urban forest by utilising various small public spaces in the city, thereby making it inclusive and gender-friendly, and creating accessible spaces for every citizen. The project shows how to increase urban green space in the city to strengthen climate resilience.
Ravi Kumar is an urban development expert who is currently advising on Urban and Regional Development for the Urban Act project at the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) India. He is involved in the ‘Climate Smart City and Urban Act’ project and is providing support at the municipal level, particularly in cooperation with the Coimbatore City Municipal Corporation (CCMC) and Coimbatore Smart City Limited (CSCL). Ravi Kumar brings over 15 years of extensive experience in urban planning, urban infrastructure, climate change initiatives and urban finance projects at the state and city level.
