How can Caribbean cruise ports become champions of circularity? What does it take to stop plastic waste before it reaches the ocean? And who are the innovators already making it happen?

Join us for an inspiring Virtual Coffee where we travel with Cruise Ships to Circular Ports! In this session, we’ll explore "Puertos Circulares", an initiative introduced by the program “Caribe Circular” of the Central American Commission for the Environment and Development (CCAD-SICA) and implemented by the ITM Group in its cruise ports with the objective of preventing plastic waste from reaching the sea, in alignment with SDGs 12 and 14.

Our speakers:

  • Eva Ringhof, senior planning adviser for circular economy, and team leader of the GIZ project "Prevention of Plastic Waste in the Seas of Central America and the Caribbean" (Caribe Circular) 2020-24 with the CCAD-SICA, where the concept for “Puertos Circulares” was developed.
  • Carlos Caporal Ramos, is a biologist passionate about sustainability, marine conservation, waste management, and sustainable tourism. He serves as the Environmental Management Officer for ITM Group, where he is actively shaping the “Circular Ports” program in Honduras and the Dominican Republic.

Let's dive into good practices and lessons learned around awareness-raising, capacity-building, communication, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. Don’t miss this opportunity to network and learn more about how circular strategies can transform Caribbean ports into models of sustainable maritime development.
