Battery take-back and recovery is becoming increasingly important, especially due to the rising demand for electric vehicles and other battery-powered products. However many countries around the world, like Thailand and Cambodia, lack sufficient infrastructure for battery collection and recycling. This presents a significant challenge for sustainable battery management and poses risks to the environment and public health.
As part of the BATTPRO project, ECOLOGICON GmbH and Stiftung GRS Batterien are conducting a feasibility study to develop sustainable take-back and recycling approaches for portable batteries in Cambodia and Thailand
André Rückert from ECOLOGICON will present the objectives and background of the project, addressing current challenges and possible solutions. The presentation will also provide fundamental insights into batteries, the global battery market, and best practices for take-back and recycling systems backed by the current EU regulations.

The ‘Innovations and Solutions’ webinar series is initiated by the GIZ project ‘Environmental Protection Worldwide’ as part of the Export Initiative for Environmental Protection launched by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment. The Export Initiative aims to promote knowledge transfer, support the development and strengthening of networks, and provide advice to suppliers of environmental technologies on possible applications and investments in target countries.

This monthly and ongoing webinar series presents “Innovations and Solutions” to decision-makers and practitioners from the public and private sectors in partner countries. The objective is to establish initial contacts, expand knowledge of viable technological solutions, generate interest in their local application and lay the foundation for future cooperation.
