2-day event on "Reduction of Air Pollution in Selected Cities"
Experience Sharing, Envisioning Implementation, Field Visits" in Auroville
Under the German Development Corporation project on “Reduction of Air Pollution in Three Indian Cities” supported by the German Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV), technical cooperation is being extended by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH to the cities of Surat, Pune, Nagpur and Bhubaneswar. The key activities being supported for the above four cities are: • Low Emission Zones: A Low Emission Zone (LEZ) is a delineated area within which various measures are implemented and restrictions are placed on certain activities to regulate them. These include traffic management measures, uninterrupted electricity supply and promotion of pedestrianization to name a few. • Sensor-based air quality monitoring: This includes the installation of sensors to measure air quality continuously, undertake data analysis and provide decision-support for the authorities for taking timely measures on air quality management. • T4CA training programme: To conduct training programmes to the identified target audience related to the cities covered under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) using the available GIZ’s Training for Clean Air (T4CA) training modules to enable cities to better plan, implement, monitor and communicate on clean air measures. • Other activities: Decentralised waste management, parking management solutions, plantation drives and strengthening of clean air action plans. These have significant potential for replication in other non-attainment cities. To facilitate experience sharing and envisioning implementation of key strategies and undertake field visits to see living examples (renewable energy, plantation and landscaping, waste management etc.), GIZ is proposing to conduct a 2-day event in Auroville with key stakeholders from the four cities (Surat, Pune, Nagpur and Bhubaneswar) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and Central Pollution on 17-18 February 2023 in Auroville.
